Mark Teixeira Injures Calf

Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira suffered a strained calf in the 4th inning causing him to leave them game after scoring on a base hit by Russell Martin.

The injury was diagnosed as a grade 1 calf strain the same injury that caused Derek Jeter to miss 3 weeks last year. The Yankees are expecting Teixeira to miss around 1-2 weeks which will be a big blow to a lineup that is already missing Alex Rodriguez.

"I don't know; It could be as little as a week," said Teixeira, whose calf was wrapped in the locker room. "Or it could be two weeks, but I don't really know."

The Yankees will have options to fill in for Teixeira at first, as Nick Swisher, Eric Chavez, Casey McGehee, and newly reacquired Steve Pearce can all play the position giving Girardi some options.

Mark Teixeira was hitting .255 with 23 homeruns, and 81 RBIs batting mostly in the cleanup spot for the Yankees.

The Yankees will be entering a tough spot in their schedule with lots of important division games, and will try to hold on to their slim 3.5 game lead over the Orioles while they try to get healthy.

Yankees Reacquire Steve Pearce

The New York Yankees were able to get first base/outfielder Steve Pearce back from the Houston Astros for cash.

Pearce was on the Yankees playing in the minors until June 2nd before he was dealt to the Baltimore Orioles. Pearce was playing very well in Scranton hitting .318 with 11 homeruns, and 30 RBIs. He was designated for assignment by the Orioles, and picked up by the Astros where he hit .254 with 8 RBIs.

In order to make room for Pearce the Yankees designated Brandon Laird for assignment. The Yankees will hope Pearce can give them a right handed bat off the bench, as they have struggled hitting lefties since Alex Rodriguez went to the DL.

Yankees Trade for Casey McGehee at Deadline

The New York Yankees didn’t do anything major at the trade deadline, but they did fill a need getting Casey McGehee to fill in at first and third base for the injured Alex Rodriguez, and Mark Teixeira. The price wasn’t very high for McGehee, as Chad Qualls was sent to the Pirates for him. This move seems like a good one as with the return of Joba Qualls would have been off the major league roster soon anyways.

Casey McGehee's best season came in 2010 with the Milwaukee Brewers when McGehee hit .285 with 23 homeruns and 104 RBIs. Casey however has not been very good in the season and a half since then, as this year with the Pirates he is hitting .230 with 8 homeruns, and 35 RBIs.

The big talk of the day was about Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster who the Yankees emerged as a possible suitor for Dempster, with Dempster agreeing if traded that he would go to New York with his 10-5 rights. Dempster ended up going to Texas leaving the Yankees only move of the day being the McGehee trade, but the Yankees big move was for Ichiro a week ago which shouldn’t be forgotten.

Alex Rodriguez Breaks Hand, Out 6-8 Weeks

The New York Yankees suffered a big loss before they actually lost the game to the Mariners, as third baseman Alex Rodriguez was hit in the left hand in the 8th inning by Felix Hernandez.

Alex took a 91 mph changeup from Felix off his left hand in the top of the 8th inning, and it was obvious by his reaction that something was very wrong with Rodriguez as he went down screaming in pain.

Eric Chavez will be the main man at third base for the next 6-8 weeks with Alex out, and Jayson Nix should be seeing some more time there as well as Chavez will need some days off here and there. Chavez is having a great season for the Yankees, as before the Rodriguez injury he was getting a good amount of starts at third base due to his great glove, and his success hitting this year. Eric is hitting .269 with 8 homeruns, and 20 RBIs in 64 games.

Yankees players and staff were all upset to see Alex get hurt, as it will be a tough blow losing a middle of the order hitter.

Ironically Chavez suffered the same injury as Alex "They told me it would be six to eight weeks," Chavez said while recalling his own injury. "It was eight weeks to the day that I got back."

"It's nondisplaced, which is good," Girardi said. "But we're going to have to make some changes, which is too bad, because Alex was just starting to feel good again."

"It's too bad about what happened," Garcia said. "It's a big loss for us. The pitch just got away from him. It happens."

Mark Teixeira was one of the more optimistic Yankees when asked about it. "It's unfortunate; it's a huge loss," he said. "But we just picked up Ichiro (in a trade Monday). That means there's going to be more chances for him to play and help us."

Yankees will be playing the final game of the series against the Mariners without Rodriguez on Wednesday afternoon, as they’ll look to survive this injury and keep their lead in the division.

Yankees West Coast Struggles Continue

The Yankees west coast struggles continued in Seattle losing to the Mariners, and ace Felix Hernandez by a score of 4-2.

Freddy Garcia was good for the Yankees going 7 1/3 innings pitched despite getting his fourth loss of the season and second straight. Garcia allowed five hits, three runs, and struck out eight batters.

Getting the final two outs in the eighth inning was and adventure after Garcia struck out Brendan Ryan, as Girardi had to use four pitchers to get the final two outs of the as Clay Rapada, Chad Qualls, Boone Logan, and Cody Eppley all made appearances before Eppley was able to get the final out of the inning.

Curtis Granderson was able to hit his 27th homerun in the first inning off King Felix, and finished 2 for 4 with two strikeouts in the game.

The Yankees suffered another big injury blow as Alex Rodriguez suffered a broken left hand in the eighth inning after getting hit by a pitch from Felix Hernandez who also hit Derek Jeter earlier in the inning, and former teammate Ichiro in the seventh.

Despite not getting a hit, Mark Teixeira was able to knock in another RBI for his 67th of the season with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning.

In a game where the Yankees weren’t able to muster much offensively, newly acquired Ichiro was able to get another hit, as Ichiro went 1 for 3 in the game hitting his 16th double of the season off Hernandez.

Yankees will be looking to try and salvage the west coast trip by winning the rubber game of the series with the Mariners Wednesday afternoon as Ivan Nova (10-4, 4.10) will be facing Hisashi Iwakuma (1-2, 4.86).

The New York Yankees were able to snap their 4 game losing streak after being swept by the Oakland Athletics by beating the Mariners 4-1

Hiroki Kuroda was great in picking up his 10^th win of the season going seven innings allowing three hits, one walk, one run, and struckout nine batters.

Yankees closer Rafael Soriano was able to get right back on track a day after blowing his second save of the season, Soriano put the Mariners down in order to earn his 25^th save of the season.

The big news before the game was the trade between the two teams that sent Ichiro to the Yankees for two prospects. Ichiro was batting 8^th and wearing the number 31 for the Yankees, and wasted little time getting his 1^st hit in pinstripes in his first at bat. Ichiro stole second right after the hit for his 16^th stolen base of the season as he went 1 for 4 in his Yankee debut.

Former Mariner Alex Rodriguez was able to show off his power that landed him a big contract against his former team. Rodriguez went 2 for 4 hitting his 14^th double of the season, and his 15^th homerun.

Mark Teixeira was able to tack on to his team lead in RBIs with a double in the 4^th inning for his 66^th of the season, as Mark had a great night at the plate going 3 for 4 with two doubles.

Curtis Granderson was the odd man out in the Yankee lineup as he was the only starter who was unable to get a hit off Mariner pitching going 0 for 4 with three strikeouts.

Former Yankee Jesus Montero who was traded for Michael Pineda didn’t fair very well in the series opener going 0 for 4 with a strikeout, and grounded into a double play.

Mariners will see another familiar face on Tuesday night as Freddy Garcia (4-3, 5.37) will be on the mound for the Yankees against Mariners ace Felix Hernandez (5-8, 2.82).

Yankees Lose in Extras, Swept by Oakland

Yankees suffered a tough extra innings loss in the 12^th inning to the Oakland Athletics by a score of 5-4, as the Yankees got swept as well to start their west coast trip.

Sabathia was pretty good in his second start off the DL in the no decision allowing six hits, one walk, three earned runs, and struck out six batters in his seven innings of work. Sabathia did however allow two solo homeruns to Athletics hitters, as Brandon Inge, and Kurt Suzuki both took C.C deep.

Rafael Soriano blew his second save of the season in the 9^th inning as Seth Smith hit a solo shot to Center Field to tie the game.

Cody Eppley had a tough time in the series in Oakland after losing his first game of the season on Friday lost his second game on Sunday with another walk-off hit this time by Coco Crisp.

Curtis Granderson had big day in the lead-off spot with Jeter Getting the day off, as Granderson went 2 for 5 scoring a run in the 1^st inning, and hitting his 26^th homerun of the season in the 4^th off former teammate Bartolo Colon.

Mark Teixeira saw himself in the second spot in the order for the second time this season and hit better there this time than earlier in the year going 2 for 6 with a RBI for his 65^th of the season.

Robinson Cano was able to bounce back a day after he saw his 23 game hitting streak snapped by going 2 for 6.

Alex Rodriguez knocked in the other two Yankee runs with a RBI double in the 3^rd inning, but it was his only hit of the game as he finished going 1 for 5 with three strikeouts.

Yankees will be heading north to Seattle to play a three game series to finish off the west coast trip, as Hiroki Kuroda (9-7, 3.46) will look to stop the losing streak against Kevin Millwood (3-7, 4.15).

Yankees offensive struggles continued in Oakland as they lost to the Athletics for a third straight game by a score of 2-1 on Saturday.

Phil Hughes gave the Yankees a good start but with a lack of run support picked up his 8^th loss of the season. Hughes went 7.2 innings allowing only four hits, two walks, and two earned runs while striking out six batters. The long ball hurt Hughes again as Yoenis Cespedes, and Brandon Inge both took Hughes deep for Oakland’s two runs.

Oakland’s rookie Jarrod Parker was able to keep the Yankees bats in check only allowing one run, and five hits in eight innings of work picking up the win.

Robinson Cano saw his 23 game hitting streak come to a end on Saturday night, as Cano went 0 for 4 with two strikeouts.

Alex Rodriguez was one of the few Yankees to have a good day at the plate going 2 for 4 with run scored, and his 11^th stolen base of the season.

Raul Ibanez was the only Yankee to knock in a run with his base hit in the 4^th inning scoring Alex Rodriguez for his 41^st RBI of the year.

Yankees will try to avoid the four game sweep in Oakland on Sunday, as C.C Sabathia (10-3, 3.27) will face former teammate of last season Bartolo Colon (6-8, 3.88).

Yankees Fall to Red Hot Athletics

Yankees vs Athletics Post Game Recap 7/19

Yankees fell to the red hot Oakland Athletics losing 4-3 as they weren’t able to start the trip out west the way they would have liked.

Freddy Garcia had his worst start since re-joining the rotation as Garcia allowed nine hits, two walks, and four earned runs while getting six strikeouts in his 5.2 innings of work. The big blow to Garcia’s night was a two-run homerun by Yoenis Cespedes in the first inning crushing a ball into the seats in left.

David Phelps who was called back up from the minors continued to pitch well in the majors going 2.1 innings in relief for Garcia not allowing a base runner and getting four strikeouts.

Derek Jeter did more of the same in the lead off spot with another multi-hit game going 2 for 4 with a run scored as July has been a big month for Jeter hitting .375.

Alex Rodriguez getting the start at DH where he is hitting much better than starting at third went 2 for 4 with a run scored.

Robinson Cano was able to get his hitting streak up to 22 games with a base hit in the sixth inning going 1 for 4 in the game.

Nick Swisher accounted for much of the Yankees offense going 2 for 4 with two RBIs, and hit his 14^th homerun of the season in the 9^th inning off All-Star Ryan Cook.

Yankees will look to bounce back against the Athletics with Ivan Nova (10-4, 4.18) on the hill, as he faces Oakland’s rookie Tommy Milone (9-6, 3.54).

Yankees Beat Blue Jays in Rain Shortened Finale

Yankees were able to pick up the win against the Blue Jays in a rain shortened game beating the Jays by a score of 6-0.

Hiroki Kuroda gave the Yanks another great start as he really found his groove it seems winning his ninth game of the season. Kuroda went seven innings not allowing a run, and only giving up 4 hits while striking out five batters.

Derek Jeter had another multi-hit game on Wednesday afternoon going 2 for 3 with a walk, and a run scored.

Mark Teixeira had a another homerun for his 19^th of the season a two-run shot in the bottom of the first inning scoring Nick Swisher.

Robinson Cano wasted no time again extending his hitting streak to 21 games now as he hit his 28^th double of the season in the first inning.

Jayson Nix, coming off a 3 for 4 night on Tuesday, was in the lineup again on Wednesday this time starting at shortstop. Nix saw more success at the plate again going 2 for 3 with two runs scored.

Yankees bench which as been great all year saw a good game from Dewayne Wise getting a rare start in Center Field for Curtis Granderson. Wise went 2 for 3 with a double, and two RBIs.

Alex Rodriguez was back in the field after two games at DH with a stiff neck, but had a tough game going 0 for 3 with a throwing error.

Yankees will be heading to the West Coast for a four game series with the Oakland Athletics as Freddy Garcia (4-2, 5.25) will face A.J Griffin (1-0, 2.63).

Yanks Win in Sabathia's Return

Yankees picked up the win over the Blue Jays winning by a score of 6-1

C.C Sabathia made his return to the Yankees rotation and picked up his 10th win of the season. C.C went six innings only allowing four hits, one walk, zero earned runs, and got six strikeouts.

Rafael Soriano was needed again in a game where it was a non-save situation heading into the ninth inning, but Chad Qualls and Clay Rapada loaded the bases leading to Soriano coming in to get his 24th save of the season.

Derek Jeter was able to go 2 for 4 with a double, run scored, and a RBI in the lead off spot.

Robinson Cano wasted no time extending his hitting streak to 20 games with a base hit in the second inning off Brett Cecil as Cano went 1 for 4 in the game.

Andruw Jones continues to swing a hot bat as Jones hit his 12th homerun of the season a three-run shot in the second inning.

Alex Rodriguez got another day off from the field giving Jayson Nix the start at third base, and Nix made the most of it going 3 for 4 with a run scored.

Chris Stewart who always catches C.C got the start tonight, and continued to play solid in his backup role going 1 for 4 hitting a double, scoring a run, and knocking in a run.

Yankees will be looking for a sweep tomorrow afternoon as Hiroki Kuroda (8-7, 3.67) faces Ricky Romero (8-5, 5.03).

Ibanez Powers Yankees Past Blue Jays

The Yankees were able to pick up the first game of the series with the Blue Jays winning by a score of 6-3.

Phil Hughes gave the Yankees a very good start, going seven innings allowing four hits, three walks, two earned runs, and recorded four strikeouts.

Rafael Soriano was needed to finish off the game as Cody Eppley allowed two base runners in the ninth inning, and was pulled by Girardi. Soriano gave up one hit but got the save for his 23rd of the year.

Alex Rodriguez who was a late scratch at third base with a stiff neck was still in the lineup as the DH, and went 2 for 4 with two runs scored.

Robinson Cano went 2 for 3 with a walk, run scored, and a RBI. With the two hits Cano extended his hitting streak to a career high 19 games.

Russell Martin might finally be showing signs of breaking his slump as he was able to hit his ninth homerun of the season, going 1 for 4 in the game.

Raul Ibanez provided the Yankees with the biggest hit of the night hitting a grand slam in the eighth inning breaking a 2-2 tie for his 12th home run of the season.

The Blue Jays Jose Bautista left the game in the eighth inning with a left wrist injury, and was replaced by Ben Francisco.

The Yankees will see the return of their ace C.C Sabathia (9-3, 3.45), as he faces Brett Cecil (2-1, 6.75).

Yankees Unable to Sweep Angels

The Yankees were unable to sweep the Angels as their ninth inning rally fell short losing 10-8

Ivan Nova struggled on Sunday afternoon against the Angels allowing nine hits, two walks, six earned runs while striking out three batters. The long ball hurt Nova as he gave up homeruns to Maicer Izturis, Albert Pujols, and Erick Aybar.

Chad Qualls after pitching a good seventh inning coming in for Ivan Nova got lit up in the eighth allowing runs runs while only getting one out in the inning.

Curtis Granderson had a great game in the field and at the plate making two spectacular catches in Center Field, and going 2 for 4 at the plate scoring two runs and hitting his 25^th homerun of the season.

Alex Rodriguez was also able to take Jered Weaver deep hitting his 14^th homerun of the season a two-run shot scoring Granderson while going 2 for 5 on Sunday.

Robinson Cano got his hitting streak up to 18 games going 2 for 3 with a walk, and a run scored.

Mark Teixeira blasted his 18^th homerun of the season, a two-run to get a late rally started in ninth inning off Ernesto Frieri for the first runs Frieri has giving up all season.

Eric Chavez getting the start as the DH had a monster game going 3 for 3 scoring two runs, and hitting his 8^th homerun of the season.

Yankees will be facing the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday at home as Phil Hughes (9-7, 4.33) will face Henderson Alvarez (5-7, 4.36).

Yankees vs. Angels Post Game Recap 7/14

The Yankees were able to pull off another win against the Angels, winning 5-3 on Saturday afternoon and will be thinking sweep heading into Sunday.

Freddy Garcia was able to pick up his 4th win of the season as he pitched okay on Saturday.  He kept the Yankees close, allowing five hits, five walks and three earned runs while striking out four in his five innings of work.

The bullpen was great for the Yankees, as Cody Eppley pitched two scoreless inning, allowing one hit. David Robertson was able to pick up two strikeouts while only allowing a hit in the 8th inning. Rafael Soriano got his 22nd save of the season while striking out two in the 9th.

Robinson Cano wasted no time getting his hitting streak to 17 games with a 2 run homerun in the 1st inning for his 21st long ball of the season. He picked up another RBI with a base hit in the 6th inning.

Curtis Granderson went 1 for 4, while hitting his 24th homerun of the season. It was a two run shot in the 3rd inning scoring Chris Stewart.

Alex Rodriguez, who received a decent amount of boos Friday night, was able to bounce back with a nice 2 for 4 game.  He hit a double, scoring a run and stealing his 10th base of the season.

The series finale on Sunday should be a good one, with two  pitchers having great seasons going at it as Ivan Nova (10-3, 3.92) will face Angels All-Star Jered Weaver (10-1, 1.96).

The Yankees were able to win the shootout in Fenway, taking the first game of the series with the Red Sox winning by a score of 10-8

Hiroki Kuroda struggled for the Yankees starting on Friday night. In 5.2 innings he allowed seven runs, six of which were earned, on 10 hits and one walk. Kuroda, who pitched great in the month of June having a 1.98 ERA, did not fair as well in his first start in July.

Rafael Soriano was able to pick up his first four-out save since 2007 and looked great doing so. He did not allow a base runner and got out of a jam in the 8^th inning for his 20^th save of the year.

Derek Jeter,who is starting to heat up again it seems, went 2-5 with a run scored on Friday getting his hitting streak up to five games.

Curtis Granderson was a great table setter for the middle of the order going 2-4 with a walk and scoring 3 runs from the two hole.

Alex Rodriguez had a big night, going 3-4 and stealing two bases, giving him nine steals for the season. He scored two runs and had an RBI as well.

Robinson Cano was able to extend his hitting streak to 12 games with his 24^th double of the season in the 2^nd inning, going 1-4 with a walk and run scored with an RBI.

Mark Teixeira may have had the best night of any Yankee hitter going 2-4 with 2 runs 4 RBIs. His big hit of the night for the Yankees was with a triple in the 7^th inning, scoring two runners and giving the Yankees the lead at the time.

Nick Swisher and Russell Martin missed out on the hit parade tonight, as they both went hitless, going a combined 0-7. Swisher struck out three times.

The Yankees will be playing a day-night double header in Boston on Saturday with Freddy Garcia (2-2, 5.94) facing Franklin Morales (1-1, 2.51) in the early game and Phil Hughes (9-6, 4.29) squaring off with Felix Doubront (8-4, 4.42) in the night game.

Yankees vs. White Sox Post Game Recap 6/29

The Yankees got hammered in the second game of the series, as they lost to the White Sox 14-7 as today’s game showed how C.C Sabathia and Andy Pettitte will be missed.

Adam Warren’s major league debut was short lived as the 24 year old right hander was hit hard by the White Sox. In his 2.1 innings, Warren gave up eight hits, two walks and six runs, including homeruns to A.J Pierzynski and Paul Konerko.

David Phelps, in his first appearance since being called back up, was able to eat some innings going 3.1 innings. Phelps allowed four hits and two runs while striking out five; he would also suffer the loss. Phelps may be next in line to get a start after Warren's poor performance.

Cory Wade was hung out to dry Friday night as Girardi tried to get 3 innings out of him. The end result is not what he had hoped for. Wade got crushed, giving up six runs in 2.1 innings and throwing nearly 60 pitches before finally getting pulled.

Dewayne Wise came in for the Yankees to face his former team after Wade and was able to get both batters out that he faced on a fly out and ground out.

Derek Jeter was able to pass Orioles great Cal Ripken Jr. for 13th on the all-time hits list with a first inning lead off double for his 3,185th career hit.

Curtis Granderson was able to knock Jeter in right away in the first inning hitting his 22nd homerun of the season.

Andruw Jones was able to get to hit with a two out two run double off the wall scoring Alex Rodriguez and Nick Swisher. The hit gave the Yankees a four run 1st inning. Jones would add another double in the 4th inning, matching his season total coming into the game in just one night.

Jayson Nix, who got the start in left field, was able to hit his 3rd double of the season in the 4th inning scoring Swisher and Jones.

The Yankees will be playing the third game of the series against the White Sox Saturday afternoon as Hiroki Kuroda (7-7, 3.40) will be facing Jake Peavy (6-4, 2.84).

Yankees vs. White Sox Post Game Recap 6/28

The Yankees suffered a tough 4-3 loss in the first game of the series with the White Sox, spoiling a good start from Ivan Nova. The bullpen was unable to get the final three outs in the top of the 9th, blowing a two run lead.

Ivan Nova was able to step up with a great start the day after the Yankees lost their top two pitchers to injuries in C.C Sabathia and Andy Pettitte. Nova went 7.1 innings allowing six hits and three walks while striking out five and only giving up one run on homerun by Alejandro De Aza.  De Aza had Nova's number, going 4-4 off him.

Boone Logan and Cody Eppley were able to get two big outs with De Aza on second base with one out for the Yankees in the 8th inning. Logan got Adam Dunn to fly out and then Eppley was able to strike out Paul Konerko to keep the lead going into the 9th.

With Rafael Soriano unavailable for the game due to pitching in four of the last five games, Girardi left Eppley in the 9th. Eppley gave up a hit to start the inning then was pulled for Clay Rapada, who made a throwing error, sailing a double play ball into center field.  This lead to David Robertson coming in with runners on 1st and 3rd and subsequently giving up a 3 run homerun to Dayan Viciedo as the White Sox got a 4-3 lead.

Curtis Granderson was able to steal another base in Thursday's game, making it two straight games with a steal for Granderson. It appears Granderson is going to be more aggressive on the base paths with the long absence of Brett Gardner and the Yankees in need of some steals.

Alex Rodriguez was able to get the Yankees offense started with a 2 out RBI double in the 5th inning, scoring Curtis Granderson for the first run for the Yankees.

Robinson Cano would double Alex Rodriguez home right after for another 2 out RBI, giving the Yankees a 2-1 lead at the time.

Mark Teixeira was able to hit a solo shot in the bottom of the 8th inning, providing a nice insurance run for the Yankees. It was Teixeira's 13th homerun of the season.

The Yankees will be playing the second game of a four game set against the White Sox on Friday night as Adam Warren (0-0, -.--) will be making his MLB debut and Jose Quintana (2-1, 1.25) will be on the mound for Chicago.

Yankees vs. Indians Post Game Recap 6/27

The New York Yankees took down the Indians 5-4 on Wednesday, and completed a three game sweep Cleveland at Yankee Stadium.

Andy Pettitte was forced to leave the game early after taking a line drive off his ankle in the 5th inning. This injury to Pettitte coming the same day C.C Sabathia was placed on the DL with a groin strain that he suffered against the Mets. Pettitte went 4 innings allowing 3 hits 1 walk 2 runs only 1 of which was earned due to a Alex Rodriguez throwing error and struck out 7 batters.

Cody Eppley and Clay Rapada struggled to finish the fifth inning as they gave up a combined 3 hits before Freddy Garcia came in to finish the fifth by striking out Jose Lopez. Garcia would go 2 1/3 scoreless innings without allowing a base runner and picking up 2 strike outs while picking up his 2nd win of the season.

David Robertson was able to cruise through the 8th inning getting 2 strikeouts setting up for Soriano. Things got very interesting for Soriano in the ninth inning as Soriano didn’t have his good stuff allowing 2 hits 2 walks and 1 run, but was able to get Asdrubal Cabrera to fly out and leave the bases loaded and picked up his 17th save of the season.

Eric Chavez was able to bust out of his funk with RISP as he was 1 for 22 coming into Wednesday afternoon. Chavez laced a two out two-run double in fourth inning scoring Cano and Ibanez. Chavez was able to get another 2 out RBI in the 8th giving the Yankees a insurance run which ended up being very important by hitting a base hit and scoring Mark Teixeira.

Robinson Cano belted his seventh homerun in the last 10 games and 18th of the year at a perfect time in the 6th inning taking Ubaldo Jimenez the other way scoring Alex Rodriguez and giving the Yankees a 4-3 lead at the time. Cano also had two base hits going a nice 3 for 4 on the day.

Russell Martin who missed the last few games with a back injury was back in the lineup but went 0-4 with 2 strikeouts as his average is now .193 for the season.

Yankees will be starting a 4 game series against the A.L Central leading Chicago White Sox at home as Ivan Nova (9-2 4.25) will face Dylan Axelrod (0-1, 4.85).

Yankees vs. Indians Post Game Recap 6/26

The Yankees were able to pick up the 6-4 win over the Indians, winning the first two games in the series, and giving the Yankees a nice four game winning streak.

Phil Hughes was very good on Monday night, bouncing back from his poor performance against the Atlanta Braves when he gave up four homeruns. Hughes, in picking up his 8th win of the season, allowed six hits one walk and no runs in eight innings, while striking out four batters in a fantastic start.

Cory Wade continued to struggle as he gave up four hits and four runs, including a homerun in the 9th inning. Wade, who was used a lot when Rivera and Robertson went down with injuries, pitched very well in that time, but has now allowed runs in four of his last five appearances.

Rafael Soriano, who Girardi probably wasn’t planning on using going into the 9th with a six run lead, was needed to close the game after Wade gave up four runs. But with only two pitches, Soriano was able to get save number 16.

Chris Stewart, in his third straight start filling in for Russell Martin, was able to get a base hit and RBI in the 2nd inning. It was his 8th of the season and scored Nick Swisher on a liner that hit off a diving Jack Hannahans glove. Stewart would add a sac fly in the 8th inning for another RBI capping off a good night.

Curtis Granderson was able get a clutch base hit later in the 3rd inning with a bases loaded, scoring Stewart and Dewayne Wise and helping the Yankees rally with two outs.

Alex Rodriguez, fresh off a day off, was able to hit his 13th homerun of the season in the 7th inning off Tony Sipp.

Derek Jeter celebrated his 38th birthday with a solid 2-5 game getting two base hits with his family in attendance.

Like Jeter, Nick Swisher was able to get 2 hits, going 2-4 in the game and Swisher was able to score both times. Swisher got his average up to .272 on the season in the process.

The Yankees will be playing the final game of the series Wednesday afternoon looking for a sweep as Andy Pettitte (3-3, 3.29) will face Ubaldo Jimenez (7-5, 4.59).

Yankees vs. Indians Post Game Recap 6/25

The Yankees were able to take the first game of the series against the Indians winning 7-1 as the Yankees bats jumped on Indians starter Josh Tomlin early, tagging him for six runs in three innings.

Hiroki Kuroda gave the Yankees a great start while picking up his 7th win of the season. Kuroda went seven innings allowing five hits, two walks, and only one run while striking out seven batters, bouncing back from his loss in Atlanta. Kuroda continues to be good in June as he has a 2.67 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP for the month.

The Yankees bullpen finished off the final two innings as Clay Rapada pitched in the 8th and Freddy Garcia in the 9th. Neither of them allowed a base runner.

Robinson Cano kept his bat red hot, hitting a two-run RBI double in the first inning, and hit his 17th homerun of the season and second homerun in as many days in the 3rd inning.

Nick Swisher followed Cano with another solo shot, his 12th homerun of the season, as the Yankees went back to back and belly to belly off Josh Tomlin in the 3rd inning.

Dewayne Wise got the start in center field and hit his 1st homerun of the season, a 2-run shot in the 2nd inning scoring Eric Chavez. Wise also got his first 2 RBIs of the season as well off the homerun. Wise would get his 3rd RBI of the game and the season in the 6th inning by hitting a triple.

Alex Rodriguez got Monday's game off, but Eric Chavez continues to hold his own on days when he’s in the lineup. going 1-3 with a walk a two runs scored.

Curtis Granderson average continues to drop going 0-3 with two strikeouts in Monday's game as June has been unkind to Granderson who is only hitting .216 for the month.

Yankees will play the second game of the series Tuesday night as Phil Hughes (7-6, 4.94) will face off against Justin Masterson (4-6, 3.98).
