Yankees Tame Tigers to Split Series

Yankees vs Tigers Post Game Recap 8/9

The Yankees were able to pull off the come from behind win against the Tigers to split the 4 game series by winning on Thursday by a score of 4-3.

Hiroki Kuroda was able to pitch pretty well against a very good Tigers lineup picking up the no decision. Kuroda pitched 6.1 innings allowing ten hits, three runs, and had five strikeouts.

Clay Rapada ended up getting the win for the Yankees for his 3^rd of the season, as Rapada pitched to the final two batters in the 7^th inning getting them both out.

Closer Rafael Soriano was called upon in the 8^th inning to get the final out, and then went back out in the 9^th for the four out save. A lead off double and then a single left Soriano with a tough take with runners on the corners and no outs, but he got two infield pop ups, and then Andy Dirks flied out to center to end the game for his 27^th save of the year.

Raul Ibanez was able to have a good day at the plate going 2 for 4 hitting his 15^th double of the season, 2^nd triple, and knocked in his 50^th RBI of the year.

Mark Teixeira after a clutch hit last night was able to do it again in the 8^th inning hitting his 20^th homerun of the season to tie the game.

Eric Chavez hot hitting continued right after Teixeira, as Chavez hit the go ahead homerun for his 12^th of the season going back to back to take the lead in the top of the 8^th inning.

Nick Swisher had a tough day after a very good night going 0 for 5 with two strikeouts in the protected two spot in the order.

A rare Joe Girardi ejection happened in the 5^th inning, as Girardi flipped out throwing a great rant on a play where the umpire Tim Welke ruled a ball foul and then fair about a second later lead to Girardi freaking out and getting tossed from the game.

Yankees will heading up north to Toronto to face the Blue Jays, as Freddy Garcia (5-5, 5.00) will face Ricky Romero (8-8, 5.47) to start the series.

Nix Pushes Yankees Past Mariners

The New York Yankees were able to finish a poor west coast trip on a positive note with a 5-2 win over the Seattle Mariners winning the three game series.

Yankees starter Ivan Nova was a bit wild on Wednesday afternoon walking six batters leading to a short five inning outing for Nova. Ivan despite the high number of walks only gave up two hits, and two runs in the no decision.

New York’s bullpen was great picking up Nova after a short start going a scoreless four innings. Clay Rapada was the first pitcher in a may have had the most important pitch of the game getting a double play ball after inheriting two runners with no outs. David Phelps came in and got the last out of the 6th, and picked up his second win of the season. Rafael Soriano was the only pitcher in the bullpen to allow hit, but was able to pick up his 26th save of the season.

Yankees Captain Derek Jeter was back in the number two spot where he spent a majority of his career, and had a huge game. Jeter went 3 for 4 with two runs scored, one RBI and hit his 8th homerun of the season a solo shot in the first inning.

Ichiro Suzuki was moved up in the order after batting in the eight spot got moved to leadoff, and went 1 for 5 and was caught stealing for the third time this season.

Jayson Nix had the biggest hit of the night for the Yankees pinch hitting for Raul Ibanez in the 8th inning. Nix hit a bases clearing double his 7th of the season with the bases loaded giving the Yankees a 4-2 lead.

Yankees will be off on Thursday traveling back to New York for a huge weekend series with the Red Sox starting Friday, as Phil Hughes (9-8, 4.09) will face Aaron Cook (2-3, 3.50).

Yanks Win in Sabathia's Return

Yankees picked up the win over the Blue Jays winning by a score of 6-1

C.C Sabathia made his return to the Yankees rotation and picked up his 10th win of the season. C.C went six innings only allowing four hits, one walk, zero earned runs, and got six strikeouts.

Rafael Soriano was needed again in a game where it was a non-save situation heading into the ninth inning, but Chad Qualls and Clay Rapada loaded the bases leading to Soriano coming in to get his 24th save of the season.

Derek Jeter was able to go 2 for 4 with a double, run scored, and a RBI in the lead off spot.

Robinson Cano wasted no time extending his hitting streak to 20 games with a base hit in the second inning off Brett Cecil as Cano went 1 for 4 in the game.

Andruw Jones continues to swing a hot bat as Jones hit his 12th homerun of the season a three-run shot in the second inning.

Alex Rodriguez got another day off from the field giving Jayson Nix the start at third base, and Nix made the most of it going 3 for 4 with a run scored.

Chris Stewart who always catches C.C got the start tonight, and continued to play solid in his backup role going 1 for 4 hitting a double, scoring a run, and knocking in a run.

Yankees will be looking for a sweep tomorrow afternoon as Hiroki Kuroda (8-7, 3.67) faces Ricky Romero (8-5, 5.03).
