Yankees Unable to Sweep Rangers

Yankees vs. Rangers Post Game Recap 8/16

The Yankees were unable to pull of the four game sweep over the Rangers, as the great Texas lineup came alive beating the Yankees 10-6.

Ivan Nova was not able to replicate his last start, as the Rangers bats got to Nova.  Ivan went 5.2 innings allowing seven hits, four walks, and four runs in the no decision.

The bullpen had one of its worse days of the seasons allowing six runs in the final 3.1 innings. Cody Eppley, Boone Logan, Joba Chamberlain, and Clay Rapada all gave up one run with Chamberlain and Logan each giving up two runs.

Derek Jeter was able to extend his hitting streak to 12 games, as Jeter went 2 for 5 with a RBI, and run scored. Jeter did benefit from a hometown call on one of the hits could have been a fielders choice and an error on Elvis Andrus.

Andruw Jones batting cleanup with no Cano or Granderson in the lineup was able to hit a two-run shot in the 6th inning for his 13th of the season.

After a 3 for 3 day with his 20th double of the year, and a run scored Ichiro is now batting over .300 since joining the Yankees making it seem that him batting 8th may not be lasting much longer.

The best rivalry in baseball will add another chapter with the 4th place Red Sox coming to town with their playoff hopes in jeopardy, as Phil Hughes (11-10, 4.44) will face Franklin Morales (3-3, 3.29).

Yankees Trade for Ichiro

The New York Yankees got a big name outfielder by trading for Seattle Mariners Ichiro Suzuki a few hours before they start a three game series in Seattle. The trade will be sending two Yankee pitching prospects in D.J Mitchell, and Danny Farquhar to Seattle, and will be sending the 10 time All-Star Ichiro to the Yankees.

Ichiro has seen a decline in his hitting over the past year and a half, as his averaged dropped to .272 in 2011, and is only at .261 this season with a OBP under .300. Mariners have not had much protection for Ichiro or have then been very competitive so a move to a contender maybe just what Ichiro needs to get back on track as he is an all-time great hitter. Ichiro does however bring some speed back to the Yankees right now, as Ichiro has 15 stolen bases while on being caught twice this season.

The addition of Ichiro was brought on in large part to the season ending elbow injury for Brett Gardner. Ichiro has been mostly in right field or center field in his career, as he is a great defender and making a switch to left will definitely be an adjustment for the gold glover.

If Ichiro is here to play left field like it would seem this will lead to a decrease in at bats for Andruw Jones, and Raul Ibanez who are both playing very well right now. Jones has 12 homeruns with 26 RBIs, and Ibanez has 12 homeruns as well with 42 RBIs both providing a lot of power.

The Yankees and Mariners will be playing tonight in Seattle, and it is being reported that Ichiro will be in the lineup playing his first game in pinstripes against his now former team the Mariners. It is unclear where Ichiro will be batting as Joe Girardi wanted to talk with him about it privately.

Gardner Likely Out for Season

Brett Gardner Likely Out for Season

The New York Yankees found out that Left Fielder Brett Gardner will need surgery on his right elbow likely ending his season. He will be going for surgery on Thursday with Dr. Christopher Ahmad.

Brett hasn’t played since April 17th against the Minnesota Twins when he hurt his elbow diving for a ball. Gardner tried to come back with a few rehab starts but was always hurting afterwards leading to him getting a MRI.

"It's unfortunate," Girardi said. "We missed some of the things he brings to our club."

Raul Ibanez and Andruw Jones have been playing great filling in for Gardner, as they both have 12 homeruns and a combined 66 RBIs for the year. The production from Ibanez, and Jones it would seem unlikely for Brian Cashman to make a major move before the trade deadline.

Yanks Win in Sabathia's Return

Yankees picked up the win over the Blue Jays winning by a score of 6-1

C.C Sabathia made his return to the Yankees rotation and picked up his 10th win of the season. C.C went six innings only allowing four hits, one walk, zero earned runs, and got six strikeouts.

Rafael Soriano was needed again in a game where it was a non-save situation heading into the ninth inning, but Chad Qualls and Clay Rapada loaded the bases leading to Soriano coming in to get his 24th save of the season.

Derek Jeter was able to go 2 for 4 with a double, run scored, and a RBI in the lead off spot.

Robinson Cano wasted no time extending his hitting streak to 20 games with a base hit in the second inning off Brett Cecil as Cano went 1 for 4 in the game.

Andruw Jones continues to swing a hot bat as Jones hit his 12th homerun of the season a three-run shot in the second inning.

Alex Rodriguez got another day off from the field giving Jayson Nix the start at third base, and Nix made the most of it going 3 for 4 with a run scored.

Chris Stewart who always catches C.C got the start tonight, and continued to play solid in his backup role going 1 for 4 hitting a double, scoring a run, and knocking in a run.

Yankees will be looking for a sweep tomorrow afternoon as Hiroki Kuroda (8-7, 3.67) faces Ricky Romero (8-5, 5.03).

Yankees Finish First Half with Win in Boston

Yankees were able to win 7-3 in Boston to finish off the first half of the season in first place in the A.L East with a record of 52-33.

Ivan Nova had a great start on Sunday Night Baseball picking up his 10^th win of the season as he allowed six hits two walks two runs only one earned run, and struck out 10 Red Sox batters.

Mark Teixeira was able to to have another good game continuing his hot hitting going 2 for 5 with an RBI, run scored and hit his 20^th double of the year.

Derek Jeter who will be starting shortstop for the American League on Tuesday in the All-Star Game went 3 for 5 with a run scored to finish off a great first half of the season for the Yankee Captain.

Curtis Granderson who will also be starting in the All-Star Game went 2 for 4 with a run scored to finish off his first half.

Nick Swisher had a big game as he was on base the whole night going 2 for 3 with two walks, a run, and an RBI.

Robinson Cano was able to extend his hitting streak to 15 games in the top of the ninth inning with a double off the monster.

Andruw Jones flashback weekend continued on Sunday as he went 2 for 5 with 3 RBIs and hit his 11^th homerun of the season and 4^th homerun in the series against Boston.

The Yankees will be on break for the All-Star Game but Robinson Cano will be the Captain for the A.L in the Homerun Derby on Monday Night. The Yanks will be back in action on July 13^th at home against the Angels.

Sloppy Yankees fall to Red Sox

The Yankees fell to the Red Sox in the second game of the double header, losing 9-5 as errors killed them.

Phil Hughes didn’t have his best stuff in the second game of the double header on Saturday, but sloppy fielding from the Yankees didn’t help either. Hughes allowed 10 hits, one walk resulting in five runs, three of which were earned in 5.1 innings. Hughes picked up his 7^th loss of the season as a result.

Boone Logan’s troubles continued, as he allowed one hit and two walks resulting in an earned run. This makes it four straight appearances for Boone allowing at least one run.

Cory Wade was back in the Yankees bullpen for the double header and picked up where he left off before he left. Wade allowed three hits, three runs, two of which were earned in 0.2 innings. Wade, who was pitching great in the first two months of the season, now sees his ERA at 5.94 for the year.

Mark Teixeira, back in a more normal spot in the lineup instead of batting 2nd, hit a three-run homerun in the 1^st inning for his 15^th homerun of the season.

Andruw Jones, who hit 2 homeruns in the first game of the double header, went 1-4 with another homerun, his 10^th of the season, in the night cap. Jones also made a great diving catch as well, flashing the abilities that led to 10 gold gloves as the Braves centerfielder earlier in his career.

Russell Martin was finally able to snap his 0-30 slump, going 1-2 with a walk and a double. He will now look to carry this into tomorrow night and the remainder of the season to get his average above .200.

Eric Chavez, who would pinch hit for Darnell McDonald, hit his 7^th homerun of the season in the 9^th inning. It was his second at bat of the night.

The Yankees will be playing the final game of the series against the Red Sox on ESPN for Sunday Night Baseball as Ivan Nova (9-3, 4.05) will face Jon Lester (5-5, 4.33).

Yankees win first game in Double Header

Yankees were able to win the first game of Saturdays double header with the Red Sox by a score of 6-1

Freddy Garcia was great on Saturday afternoon in picking up his 3^rd win of the season going 6.2 innings allowing 6 hits 2 walks and only giving up 1 run while striking out 5 as his return to the rotation has been very good so far filling in for the Yankees injured starters.

Yankees bullpen was great in closing out the game as Cody Eppley went a scoreless 1.1 innings only allowing a walk, and Chad Qualls was able to pitch a scoreless 9^th in the non save situation.

Derek Jeter had a big day at the plate going 3-5 and scoring a run as he was able to extend his hitting streak up to 6 games.

Robinson Cano was also able to extend his hitting streak to 13 games as Cano went 1-4 with a run scored and was hit by a pitch.

Nick Swisher was able to get the Yankees offense started with a bang in the first inning hitting a 3 run homerun in the 1^st inning for his 13^th of the season as Swisher went 2-3 with 2 walks 3 RBIs and scored a run in the game.

Andruw Jones went back to back with Swisher in the 1^st inning for his 8^th homerun of the season and then hit his 9^th homerun of the season in the 4^th inning.

Mark Teixeira saw himself in the second spot of the order for the first time since 2003 and was unable to follow up his great game last night with another one today going 0-4 with 2 strikeouts

Jayson Nix got the start at shortstop giving Jeter the day off from the field and was able to his his 3^rd homerun of the season following Jones in the 4^th inning.

Yankees will be playing 2^nd game of the double header at 7pm with Phil Hughes (9-6, 4.29) facing Felix Doubront (8-4, 4.42).

Yankees vs. White Sox Post Game Recap 6/29

The Yankees got hammered in the second game of the series, as they lost to the White Sox 14-7 as today’s game showed how C.C Sabathia and Andy Pettitte will be missed.

Adam Warren’s major league debut was short lived as the 24 year old right hander was hit hard by the White Sox. In his 2.1 innings, Warren gave up eight hits, two walks and six runs, including homeruns to A.J Pierzynski and Paul Konerko.

David Phelps, in his first appearance since being called back up, was able to eat some innings going 3.1 innings. Phelps allowed four hits and two runs while striking out five; he would also suffer the loss. Phelps may be next in line to get a start after Warren's poor performance.

Cory Wade was hung out to dry Friday night as Girardi tried to get 3 innings out of him. The end result is not what he had hoped for. Wade got crushed, giving up six runs in 2.1 innings and throwing nearly 60 pitches before finally getting pulled.

Dewayne Wise came in for the Yankees to face his former team after Wade and was able to get both batters out that he faced on a fly out and ground out.

Derek Jeter was able to pass Orioles great Cal Ripken Jr. for 13th on the all-time hits list with a first inning lead off double for his 3,185th career hit.

Curtis Granderson was able to knock Jeter in right away in the first inning hitting his 22nd homerun of the season.

Andruw Jones was able to get to hit with a two out two run double off the wall scoring Alex Rodriguez and Nick Swisher. The hit gave the Yankees a four run 1st inning. Jones would add another double in the 4th inning, matching his season total coming into the game in just one night.

Jayson Nix, who got the start in left field, was able to hit his 3rd double of the season in the 4th inning scoring Swisher and Jones.

The Yankees will be playing the third game of the series against the White Sox Saturday afternoon as Hiroki Kuroda (7-7, 3.40) will be facing Jake Peavy (6-4, 2.84).

Yankees vs. Mets Post Game Recap 6/22

Yankees fell to the Mets 6-4 in the first game of the series at Citi Field as a rough 1st inning for Andy Pettitte put the Yankees in a hole that they couldn’t climb out of as the Bronx Bombers are now on a 3 game losing streak.

Andy Pettitte's first start as a 40 year old didn’t treat him well, as he got rocked in the 1st inning giving up five runs on five hits and two walks in the 1st inning with Ike Davis providing the big blow with a 3-run shot that hit off a leaping Nick Swisher's glove helping it over the wall. Andy was able to settle down afterwards only giving up two hits in the next five innings.

Cory Wade's struggles continue as he gave up two hits and one earned run in 7th inning as that is now three straight appearances allowing a run.

Yankees offense took a while to score but Alex Rodriguez was able to hit a solo homerun, his 12th of the season in the 6th inning for the Yankees first run of the game.

Andruw Jones followed in the 7th inning hitting a solo homerun of his own his, 7th of the season, and tied Mets great Mike Pizza for 43rd on the all time homerun list. Jones also showed off some of his old fielding abilities making a diving catch in the bottom half of the 7th robbing Scott Hairston of a hit and making the throw to 2nd base to double off David Wright.

Robinson Cano was able to get the Yankees closer in the 8th inning with a monstrous two run homerun into right field scoring Mark Teixeira for his 15th of the season.

Yankees and Mets will play the second game of the series Saturday night as Ivan Nova (9-2, 4.32) will face Chris Young (1-1, 3.06).
