Yankees Shutdown again by Oakland Pitching

Yankees vs Athletics Post Game Recap 7/21

Yankees offensive struggles continued in Oakland as they lost to the Athletics for a third straight game by a score of 2-1 on Saturday.

Phil Hughes gave the Yankees a good start but with a lack of run support picked up his 8th loss of the season. Hughes went 7.2 innings allowing only four hits, two walks, and two earned runs while striking out six batters. The long ball hurt Hughes again as Yoenis Cespedes, and Brandon Inge both took Hughes deep for Oakland’s two runs.

Oakland’s rookie Jarrod Parker was able to keep the Yankees bats in check only allowing one run, and five hits in eight innings of work picking up the win.

Robinson Cano saw his 23 game hitting streak come to a end on Saturday night, as Cano went 0 for 4 with two strikeouts.

Alex Rodriguez was one of the few Yankees to have a good day at the plate going 2 for 4 with run scored, and his 11th stolen base of the season.

Raul Ibanez was the only Yankee to knock in a run with his base hit in the 4th inning scoring Alex Rodriguez for his 41st RBI of the year.

Yankees will try to avoid the four game sweep in Oakland on Sunday, as C.C Sabathia (10-3, 3.27) will face former teammate of last season Bartolo Colon (6-8, 3.88).
