Rangers Sign Jeff Halpern to One-Year Deal

zimbio.com
Since making multiple moves on the opening day of free agency, the Rangers have been staying quiet. Today the Rangers signed veteran Jeff Halpern from the Washington Capitals. The Rangers signed Halpern to a one-year deal.

Halpern, who has been on multiple teams including Tampa Bay, Montreal and Dallas along with two seasons overseas, recorded 16 points (4G, 12A) in 69 games last season for the Caps.Halpern enjoyed his best season in 200 with the Caps, recording 21 goals and 21assists in 80 games.

The Rangers will most likely use Halpern on the fourth line, and also on the penalty kill.

The Rangers are still expected to make a move to acquire a big name scorer, and seem to be taking their time with a decision on who to go for. Rick Nash of Columbus, and Bobby Ryan of Anaheim are the top prospects, although Alexander Semin is still a free agent who can help the Rangers offense next season.
